American Rose Society . National Convention

The American Rose Society 2009 National Convention was this weekend. I was very pleased that out of the two District Challenge classes, I won both!

The design (top) is the winner for the 2009 John and Dorothy Van Barneveld Arrangement Trophy. A Standard Modern Hanging design. Free-moving design using a frame or other suspension. All roses must be arranger-grown. This rose is a hybrid tea 'In Dreams'.

I won this class in 2006 with another hanging design....this one took flight.

The second design is for the 2009 Fair Friends of Roses Miniature Arrangement Trophy. Miniature Modern Stretch design not to exceed 10" in height, width or depth. All roses must be arranger-grown and classified as miniature roses.

'Baccara Samhainfun'......a Haute Heritage Halloween Bear

'Baccara Samhainfun' [pronounced sow-wen-fun] is a 6", antiqued, sparse, and matted black and gold mohair bear, treated and stained, hand tinted/painted in shades of tobacco, black and grey pigments in the 'haute heritage' - la de da' style. She is very well loved, plucked, weathered and worn to look like a bear from yester-year. Hand sewn, center seam head design, stuffed with poly and copper shot for a cozy weight in the hand. Embroidered nose and mouth. Her arms and legs are thread jointed and her head is wobble jointed for lots of movement making her nod more for a shy, "pick me up" appeal. This is a new pattern sporting a new more upturned nose. I am obsessed with getting just the right profile and I really like this one. Her eyes have been "treated" to look wet around her black imported glass inset eyes. Her lips have been treated as well. She wears a black ribbon on her head for a bit of la de da' flair. She also comes with a black rose I sculpted from clay as a prop. Her paw pads have been treated for a wet/worn/shabby texture....for a "well loved" appeal. She comes with a perfect little prop stand for more posing options and the ability to stand.

'Baccara' is my first Halloween bear, I did not want her to be too Halloween-ish so she can be enjoyed all year long. 'Baccara' is the name of one of a handful of classified 'black' colored roses. "Samhain", [pronounced sow-wen] is the ancient Celtic festival known to be the origin of Halloween.

'Crispin Autumnberry' a Haute Heritage Bear

'Crispin Autumnberry' is a 7", antiqued, sparse, olive/brown mohair bear, treated and stained, heavily hand tinted/painted in shades of tobacco, moss green and sepia pigments in the 'haute heritage' - la de da' style. Her paw pads have been treated for a wet/worn/shabby texture....for a "well loved" appeal. She comes with a perfect little prop stand for more posing options and the ability to stand.

♥ ♥ San Diego Rose Show ♥ ♥

The San Diego Bear show was a success yesterday and still...bunches of lovely bears are now available on line in the La De Da' Etsy Shop. ♥ ♥

I was fortunate to have several bears adopted by collectors new to the La De Da' line and a few returning collectors. The artists and crowd were friendly and enthusiastic about the new designs. The feedback was literally intoxicating....I am still floating after a wonderful day of bears and beautiful people.

'Fayette la Fée'

'Fayette la Fée' is a 6.5" French inspired fairy bear. She is created out of white sparse, matted mohair, a "haute shabby" bear. Sculpted clay nose (no molds,free hand), leather eye lids, needle felted eye whites, doe eye design with glass eyes , hand sewn, center seam head design, hand pigment shaded, stuffed with poly and copper shot for a cozy weight in the hand. 'Emmaline la Fée'

'Chantilly le Pierrot'

'Chantilly le Pierrot' is a 6.5" (8.5" with her cap on) French Pierrot inspired bear. She is made out of white and gold sparse mohair, distressed and shaded....a "haute shabby" bear. Sculpted clay nose (no molds,free hand), leather eye lids, needle felted eye whites, glass eyes, hand sewn, center seam head design, hand pigment shaded, stuffed with poly and copper shot for a cozy weight in the hand. Her arms and legs are thread jointed and her head is wobble jointed for lots of movement. She wears a handmade cap and ruffle, made out of handmade paper then altered to be a highly pliable "fabric" for a bit of la de da' flair. Her eyes are accented in french mime style makeup and applied eyelashes. The La De Da' Artisan Bear Web Site has been updated to coordinate seamlessly with the La De Da' Rose Garden Blog. Many new branding items are on order, tags, business cards, etc. New bear designs are on the cutting table as well.

The La De Da' Artisan Bear Facebook Fan page has grown to 718 members. The Bren Pollock-Smith, Artist Facebook page is at 988 members. I have been blessed with incredible support from people worldwide in my artistic efforts.
